About Charlyn Too

Charlyn holds a Bachelor's Degree in Management from the University of London and is also a registered AMIS Music and CCA Instructor with Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE). She is certified by The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) with a Diploma in Principles of Instrumental Teaching (Piano) trained under mentors such as Dr. Julian Hellaby, Richard Crozier and Bill Thomson.

 

Charlyn is qualified with a Diploma in Popular Music Vocals (Performance) from the London College of Music (LCM). Her vocal mentor is Singaporean singer-songwriter Lin Si Tong. Charlyn has also attained an ABRSM Grade 8 Singing (Classical, with Distinction) under the tutelage of veteran Mezzo-soprano, Anna Koor. She is coached in conducting skills by award-winning conductor, Dr. Audrey Chung and serves as a Choral Director and Soprano in her church's choir. 

Trained in Encore Music Education (award-winning programme from Australia), Charlyn is able to teach its Kinderbeat (early childhood programme) and Junior Series (4-7 years old beginners).

 

Music has been a big part of Charlyn’s life since her youth. While pursuing her studies, Charlyn was the President and Student Advisor for Singapore Polytechnic’s Chinese Orchestra and Arts Festival.

 

Charlyn has also worked with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra as a Community Outreach Executive, organizing events and projects such as Concerts for Children, SSO on Campus, SSO Edu-taining Activity Books and Audio CDs, Music Appreciation Talks and Workshops.

 

Currently an Associate Member of the Composers and Authors Society of Singapore (COMPASS), Charlyn is a competent songwriter well-versed in melody and lyrics (English and Mandarin) writing. Her original SG50 songs "There's No Place Like Home" and "存在的意义", co-written with Audris Ho, are officially accepted by SG50 Committee under SG50 Youtube Channel "Ground-up Projects", featured on History Channel 50on50 web series, Mediacorp Channel 8 Frontline, various newspapers and performed at Eunos National Day Observance Ceremony and SG50 Street Party at Eunos.

 

As a singer-songwriter, Charlyn was invited to perform her originals at the Esplanade Concourse "Celebrate December Festival", debuting her original song "Because You're My Friend". She was also invited as a judge at singing competitions with the Queenstown Stirling View Zone RC.

 

Charlyn has amassed more than 15 years of teaching experience. She has taught at the Singapore Teachers Academy for the aRts (STAR), MOE schools, music schools and her music studio. She conducts workshops, group and individual lessons in an effective and engaging teaching style. Her students include music teachers, school choirs, professionals, parents and children. Charlyn is currently a Choir Conductor at Punggol Cove Primary School and White Sands Primary School and is contactable for piano, vocal and songwriting lessons, as well as performances.
